Do I need to speak Japanese?
No. I guide in English and interpret for you at counters, in shops and at reception desks. If you want to practise Japanese instead, I'm happy to be your practice partner.
Can you guide in Portuguese or Spanish?
Portuguese, yes — at a conversational level. Whether you are visiting from Brazil or Portugal, or living here as part of the Brazilian community, we can speak directly without an interpreter. Spanish I can manage for simple exchanges, but for anything involved I will have to ask you to switch to English or Japanese. Better you know that now.
Are you a travel agency?
No. I am not a registered travel agent. What I sell is my time as a guide — nothing else. I do not arrange transport or accommodation, and you book those yourself. I can tell you which routes and areas are worth considering.
What about transport and food costs?
Not included. You buy your own train and bus tickets, and pay each restaurant directly. My own travel costs are already covered by the guide fee — you don't pay for them.
Can you pick me up?
I'm afraid not — driving passengers for reward without a licence is illegal in Japan. Meeting points are always somewhere you can reach by public transport, such as a station or a trailhead, and I send detailed directions in advance.
I have never hiked before.
The half-day low-mountain plan is designed for exactly that. I send a kit list in advance and cover everything from choosing boots to how to place your feet on the descent. Tell me anything you're worried about when you enquire.
What if it rains?
Walks and day trips usually go ahead, with an alternative plan. Hikes may be cancelled on safety grounds. If I cancel, you get a full refund or a new date, and you'll hear from me by 18:00 the day before.
How do I pay?
By card through Stripe — Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Cards issued outside Japan work fine. I don't take cash.
Can I cancel?
Free up to 8 days before. After that a cancellation fee applies on a sliding scale — see the cancellation policy on the pricing page.
Can I book as a solo traveller?
Yes — solo is the most common booking. Prices are per group, so one person and four people cost the same.
I live in Japan. Can I book?
Of course. This isn't only for visitors. If there's somewhere you'd rather not go alone, or you'd simply like company on the walk, you're welcome.
I have food allergies.
Tell me when you enquire and I'll choose venues accordingly. Vegetarian, vegan and halal can all be discussed. Some Japanese restaurants genuinely can't accommodate them, and I'll tell you honestly when that's the case.
Should I tip?
No. Tipping isn't a custom in Japan. If you enjoyed the day, a few words about it means more.
